When I saw the image of the Temptation in Lutwin's "Temptation", my first
thought was that i had seen it before. A check of my slides brought up two.
Vester Broby c.1350. (M-K 28-064) Temptation. Choir, west arch. Left, Adam
holds fruit in right hand, eats fruit held in left. Center, temptress, with
crowned human head with long hair, snake's body, hold fruit in mouth.
Right, Eve, takes fruit held in temptress' mouth in right hand, holds fruit
in left hand.
Vigersted c.1450. (M-K 28-113) Temptation. Sect 2, south arch. Adam, leaves
to hide nakedness in right hand, eats fruit held in left hand. Center,
tempter, human head on snake's body, holds fruit in mouth. Right, Eve,
leaves to high nakedness held in left hand, eats fruit held in right.
I am posting the full images as two messages. You then can choose which you
would like to compare with Lutwin image.
I hope that this will be interesting.
Regards, Jim
