If an atheist has rational reasons for his choice he may want to condier a
rational exposition of the reasons for theism:
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/5048/theism.html
This argument draws from St. Thomas and Bl. John Duns Scotus' argument
regarding a first Cause.
If he is an ex-Christian, though, he may want to consider whether he ever
understood the rational basis for the truth of Christianity, that is, the
historical evidence for the claims of Christ to be God and the Son of God.
Then he can read various books known properly as apologetical works.
In many cases, atheists come from broken or disfunctional homes, where
there were no proper role models for father and mother; and in such cases
the way out of atheism beings with having truly charitable friends, whence
they can learn what chaste love is all about.
Sincerely in Christ,
