I quite agree. That is my reading of Iohann Andreae's apparatus, which
mentions simply "carnal" (that is physical) relationship. Similarly,
affinity could be contracted by either licit or illicit sex. Thus Henry
VIII was related to Anne Bolyn by affinity [Mary B. was his mistress at one
time] even as he was claiming affinity with Catherine of Aragon by saying
she had consummated her marriage to his brother Arthur.
