Dear All
I'm foraging into areas that are rather new for me - heresy in late C14,
early C15 England - and I need to beg your indulgence to ask a short,
technical question relating to a specific source. To whit: is the letter
sent by William Courtenay to the Chancellor of Oxford in 1382 (vs. Wycliff
and calling for action against him and his supporters) that is translated in
Foxe's Acts and Monuments, vol. III, pp. 24-25 the same as the letter
recorded (in Latin) in Fasc. Ziz. 309-311? And is the latter - the Fasc.
Ziz. version - a trustworthy transcription of the versions recorded in
Courtenay's register? (I'm getting the Latin references here from Dahmus's
monograph on Courtenay, from the notes relating to page 90-91, which refs
Reg. Courtenay fols. 26v-27v, and Wilkin's Concilia, III, pp. 159-60. I
don't currently have access to Wilkins...)
sorry to be so slow and ignorant...
cheers
john
