REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL IN NEWHAM
A major new blueprint showcasing the best of the borough of Newham
was launched today by Culture Minister Janet Anderson. The plan aims
to help local residents get the most out of life by exploiting the
cultural opportunities on their doorstep.
Newham Council's cultural strategy - 'Reasons to be Cheerful' was
developed by seeking the views of local people. It shows how they
like to spend their free time and what cultural opportunities they
would like to see in the borough.
Speaking at the launch of Newham's local cultural strategy - 'Reasons
to be Cheerful' Culture Minister Janet Anderson said:
"The Government wants to improve the quality of life for all by
enabling everyone to fulfil their potential and broaden their
horizons. I congratulate Newham Council for developing the strategy,
which has been produced with energy, enthusiasm and commitment.
"The plan will be an important tool to help the Council to develop a
cultural vision in response to the needs and aspirations of the local
community.
"The Government is encouraging all local authorities to develop local
cultural strategies which recognise the important role that cultural
services have in tackling life-long learning and sustaining
healthier, safer and more prosperous communities."
