neither rude nor authoritarian, but perhaps a bit out of touch.
as, it seems to me, more than a few members of the list are interested
(as was i) in the circumstances of the ole Oriens' list demise.
List "Ownership" is a thankless task, so i should say to George and Carolyn
(friends whom i personally know from several year's k'zoos) and Otfried (a
friend whom i only know virtually, so far):
Thank You, all.
that being said,
>George did not "harass" Bill East off the list, nor did Bill [say? do?
think?] anything that would have warranted such an action on the part of the
listowner(s).
my colourful interpretation, perhaps --based on private correspondance--
including this characteristic bit of Suppleness (remember??): "He asked
me not to use the word 'levity' in a posting as it might encourage others to
levitate..."
well, Supple Levitations were once one of the Out Standing Features of this
List, and, speaking for myself, I *Miss* em like hell.
and: "....also to refrain from using a pseudonym..."
duh.
*That* one strains even *my* credibility.
>at a certain point it was Bill who decided to leave the list.
no doubt technically true, if you say so, Otfried.
"But lately, every time I send a posting, George seems to take issue with it."
>We did not suggest it to him, but we accepted his decision, though not
without regret.
"I thought . . . some undeanly thoughts, and decided enough was enough.
Why court unpleasantness?"
>I hope that Bill too, notwithstanding our disagreement, is still
thinking of us as friends.
i also trust that this is true, and i have no reason to believe otherwise.
bottom line is: this good list is poorer for Bill East's having left it, no
matter what the circumstances of his leaving were.
every list needs a Certifiably Insane member, and we were lucky to have one
that was so clearly and transparently such, and who happened to be more than a
bit erudite in the subject matter of the list.
plus, i thought that i was, slowly, making progress getting the old guy
to reform his attrocious grammer.
best to all from here,
colourful christopher
