Dear Brenda,
Is it possible that it might be a shorthand reference to Aquabajulus or holy
water clerk? Such a cleric might well have formed part of an ecclesiatic's
entourage and could have doubled as a 'go-for'/witness/general dogsbody when
he wasn't carrying the holy water bucket. Having spent most of Christmas
doing just that here in the monastery I can sympathise with the poor chap!
