Most of physiotherapy, like electrotherapy, is lacking hard scientific
evidence. People can form an opinion, but later change it, and I believe
this is good because it shows that they are open minded and not stubborn
enough to simply hang on to their old beliefs. >>
***Maybe you also recall reading a research article which disclosed that
something like 85 percent of all medical procedures also lack solid
scientific evidence. What does that tell us?
You also may have read research that the vast majority of non traumatic back
complaints resolve themselves without therapeutic intervention by
physiotherapists or chiropractors. Of course, if people realised this and
were willing to suffer awhile longer, then a great deal of chiropractic
treatment would have to disappear and be replaced by something else. At
least physiotherapists do not have to rely on spinal treatment in the
practise of their trade. Maybe some chiros have started adopting more
physio-based methods because they sense the limitations of a spine-dominated
philosophy.
