Discover how to keep bibliographic chaos at bay in:
The cat and class course - it's OK for anyone!
A two day workshop on 6 & 7 December, London
OK or organisation of knowledge is central to the effective function of any
information service.
The established skills developed within librarianship provide both effective
systems for this process, and also the conceptual tools for developing and
tailoring in house approaches appropriate for your organisation.
How will this event help you?
This workshop has been designed to provide a basic introduction to the
skills of information organisation in the context of library and information
services. It will provide a broad based framework built from principles and
practice that the participant can then take away and develop in their own
organisational context.
Features
The workshop content is informed by the major international standards which
are used for knowledge organisation in libraries, including the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Dewey Decimal Classification and MARC
format for computerised cataloguing and thesaurus.
These tools are used in the workshop exercises. This allows you to develop
a basic understanding of the principles involved, which will then inform
your approach to information organisation back in the workplace.
Who will benefit from attending?
You will find this workshop ideal if you are an information worker who is
new to this area.
