Shirley,
Regarding genealogies of disability' I refer you to article 'Refleshingly
Disabled' Interrogations into the Corporeality of disablised bodies',
Australian Feminist Law Journal, Vol 12, March 1999, pp 57 - 80. I will send
you a paper I wrote for a recent eugenics conference in Newcastle - also
forthcoming in AFLJ.
Cheers
Fiona

Subject: new member/eugenics
Hello my name is Shirley and I am new to the group. I teach at the
University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand on inclusive education,
inclusive curriculum and diversity. I have just completed my doctoral
thesis. My topic is about the inclusion of students with disabilities at
the secondary school level.
I came across this site when searching about the eugenics movement and
Peter Singer. I am looking to do an historical overview of how disabled
people have been constructed over time and continue to be in the present
day. I know Lennard Davis has written an excellent article on historical
constructions. I want to be able to link it with present day discrimination
of disabled people. Can anyone tell me some websites or articles that
people may have written on "assisted suicide" or euthanasia in relation to
disability? I remember reading some horror stories some time ago about
parents of disabled children being made to sign non resuscitation orders
before medics would operate on them.
Many thanks. I look forward to learning from the group.
Shirley
