Hi
As promised, the Disability Research Unit web site has finally moved
to its new location at www.leeds.ac.uk/disability-studies. It woudl be
a huge help to us if you could update any links with the appropriate
information.
You should find all the familiar features from the old site (several of
which I have updated).
The big new feature however, is the Disability Archive UK (you can
find it under the 'resources' link). This provides free on-line access to
significant disability writings not generally available in the public
domain and will be continually updated. So, keep coming back...
As a start, we begin with a tribute to the work of Vic Finkelstein and
UPIAS in the UK by including a number of on-line documents often
refered to but rarely read. Enjoy :-)
A message from Colin...
'It is my firm belief that disability studies should be rooted in the work
of disabled people and their organisations. An understanding of
history is vital if we are to engage with and influence the future. But
all too often we have little or no knowledge of the concerns and
insights of those who went before.
The aim of the Disability Archive is to provide disabled people,
students and scholars with an interest in this and related fields with
access to the writings of those disability activists and writers whose
work may no longer be available in the public domain.
It is sincerely hoped that the documents available within the
Disability Archive will help inform current and future debates on
disability and related issues. Files and articles may be downloaded
and reproduced in other formats for those without access to a
computer.
The Disability Archive is a resource that will be periodically expanded
to include other material as and when it becomes available.
Colin Barnes: 6th November 2000.'
Best Wishes
