Wojtek,
The relation (or non-relation) between stretching lineations
and the direction of tectonic transport is discussed in Section 10.9
of our book "Tectonics" (Moores and Twiss, 1995, W.H. Freeman & Co.).
We argue that there is no necessary relation between these two
features, and show why that is so for simple geometries of flow. We
also briefly discuss other aspects of this problem in Section 16.7 of
"Structural Geology" (Twiss & Moores, 1992, W.H. Freeman & Co.).
Perhaps this will help.
