'Edward II' was written by Marlowe after the events of May 30th, 1593.
Gaveston represented Marlowe himself, Burghley's favourite, and
Edward II represented Burghley. Marlowe's contemporaries started
calling him 'Piers' (as in Penniless) and Ben Jonson wrote the events
up disguised as 'Sejanus:his Fall'.
