I think your imagery is quite pertinent. Public spectacle is not what it
once was, by all accounts. Anyone with an interest in Greek theatre should
attend a Rolling Stones concert, even if only for the experience - but will
find that all subtlety is lost.
Ficino's "Divine Frenzy" was not public - and no subtlety was lost.
I'm not sure whether it is an "aside". It might be the stuff from which
Renaissance "dreams" were made.
