Hello again,
I have another request for guidance from the collective wisdom of the list.
I'm sure I recall a medieval debate over a series of linked questions
arising from the definition of the word "homo." The first concerns whether
"homo" includes both men and women. Dependent upon the former is a question
about "imago Dei:" if women are (or aren't) included in "homo," then are
(or aren't) they in the image of God? Lastly, I am relating this set of
questions, in my memory, with a debate over whether or not women have souls.
I apologize for the rather garbled and vague character of this inquiry. But
can anyone recommend primary source citations, or (better yet) good
scholarly treatments of these issues?
Thanks in advance,
Nancy Caciola
