I pulled out my print copy of a random Augustine volume from the Eerdmans
reprint of the Fathers (more detailed bibliographical info below) and found
as I expected that both the New Advent and CCEL on-line versions are taken
from that.
The CCEL site has the distinct advantage of including the footnotes, all
the prefatory material of the revised and expanded U.S. edition, included
names of editors and translators and their dated prefaces, and (for
Augustine) the relevant passages from the _Retractiones_.
As a reminder, the Fathers link page at the CCEL site is here:
<http://ccel.org/fathers2/>
and the New Advent's Fathers link page is here:
<http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/>
The relationship between the Catholic Encyclopedia (not the New CE, by the
way, its later and still-copyrighted descendent) and New Advent Fathers'
pages is that they're both hosted by the same domain; the webmaster
considerately provided cross-reference biographical links from the latter
to the former.
Here's the original Edinburgh edition's bibliographical info for the
Augustine series, taken from the Graduate Theological Union's on-line
catalog:
Augustine, Saint, Bishop of Hippo
Works. English. 1871
The works of Aurelius Augustine / a new translation, edited by Marcus Dods
Edinburgh : T. & T. Clark, 1871-1892
And the original U.S. edition's info:
A Select library of Nicene and post-Nicene fathers of the Christian church.
First series. Translated into English with prolegomena and explanatory
notes, under the editorial supervision of Philip Schaff and Henry Wace. New
York, The Christian literature company; 1890-1900 ; New York, C. Scribner's
Sons, 1890-1900.
And the more recent reprint's info:
A Select library of Nicene and post-Nicene fathers of the Christian church.
First series. Translated into
English with prolegomena and explanatory notes, under the editorial
supervision of Philip Schaff and Henry Wace. Grand Rapids, Mich.: Eerdmans,
[1952-1964].
Eerdmans has kept this in print for most if not all of the last almost-50
years, along with the similar Ante-Nicene and NPNF Second series (the
post-ante-Nicene Fathers besides Augustine and Chrysostom), and I would
expect them all to be in academic libraries of any size.
As a complete set of 38 volumes in the three series, the Eerdmans edition
is quite a bargain at $350:

and Hendrickson has reprinted it, available for a very good price from
Christian Book Distributors:
<http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product/22243536?item_no=30947>
There are links at the bottom of the page to the other series. CBD's price
is the same as Eerdmans' for the complete set, but Eerdmans sells its
complete 38-volume set for less than either of its 14-volume NPNF series
alone; if you only want part, the Hendrickson edition from CBD is much less
expensive.
I hasten to add I have no commercial interest in any of the three
businesses mentioned above.
