Hill Monastic Manuscript Library
Research Stipends for Scholars
Heckman Stipends
The Hill Monastic Manuscript Library invites applications for research stipends, made
possible by the A. A. Heckman Fund.
Up to ten stipends in amounts up to $1,500 are awarded yearly. The stipends may be used to
defray the cost of travel, room
and board, microfilm reproduction, photo-duplication and other expenses associated with
research at the Library. Length of
residency may range from two weeks to six months. Undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral
scholars (those who are within
three years of completing a terminal master's or doctoral degree) are eligible. The
program is specifically intended to help
scholars who have not yet established themselves professionally and whose research cannot
progress satisfactorily without
consulting materials to be found in the collections of the Hill Monastic Manuscript
Library.
Application Information
Applicants should submit to the HMML Committee on Research
a letter of application
a curriculum vitae
a one-page description of proposed research project including proposed length of
stay and an explanation
of how the Library's resources will enable them to advance their project
a confidential letter of recommendation from their advisor, thesis director,
mentor, or, in the case of
postdoctoral candidates, a colleague who is a good judge of their work.
Please direct all inquiries and materials to the Committee on Research, Hill Monastic
Manuscript Library, Box
7300, Saint John's University, Collegeville, MN 56321.
Deadlines
The Committee grants awards every six months. The next deadline is extended to 1 November
2000 for study occurring from January through June 2001.

Sincerely,
Deborah Shepherd
