I don't know about individual subscriptions to databases, but if you live
close enough to the right research library, some libraries have access to
these databases availible through public computer terminals. I know that
at the University of Notre Dame, for example, any user can access the Acta
Sanctorum and the PL databases from the public terminals on the first
floor. Of course, you have to be on campus to do that...
