Have you come across the Sainte-Anne-Trinitaire ? An icon that raises in me
doubts as to its theological validity tho' I have not seen it classified as
heretical ...
It consists of a group of 3 persons - usually a mature St Anne with an
immature St Mary and an even more immature Christ-Child. It is a variation
of the better-known image of St-Anne-teaching-the-Virgin-to-read.
The cult of Ste Anne is very widespread in Brittany, so it is not surprising
that an exhibition of Ste-Anne-Trinitaires was held at the Dobree Museum in
1966. Most of my information comes from the Catalogue to this Exhibition:
COSTA, Dominique. "Sainte Anne". Nantes, Musee Dobree, 15 Oct-15 Dec 1966.
Address: Musee Dobree, place Jean V, Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, France. Tel:
71.44.37.
There were copies of this catalogue still for sale there about 5 years ago
when I was in Nantes. if you contact then you might be lucky.
