HERU is the acronym for Health Economics Research Unit. Established in 1977
at the University of Aberdeen, HERU is the main centre for research into
health economics in Scotland.
As well as work relating to applications of economic evaluation in health
care, research at HERU is looking into how the behaviour of health care
providers is influenced and the costs and benefits of organisational and
behavioural change. A 5 year programme of research funded by the MRC is
exploring the potential applications of Discrete Choice Experiments in
health economics and addresses methodological issues in the application of
the technique. Descriptions of projects undertaken within these research
themes may be found on the website together with staff directory, contact
details and a full listing of publications which include HERU Discussion
Papers available in full text from 1999, and Briefing Papers for the NHS in
Scotland, also available in full text.
