dear anna,
leukodystrophy refers to a group of genetic disorders that are
characterized by the imperfect growth or development of the white matter or
myelin sheath covering nerve fibers in the brain. each of the
leukodystrophies is differnt. the symptoms vary according to the specific
type and may be difficult to recognize in the early stages of the disease.
the prognosis varies according to the specific type.
from your description i understand the type of the leukodistrphy is
progresing very quickly. most types require symptomatic and supportive
therapy. help in feeding, help in breathing and passive movements, and also
parents' support are the main directions you can take.
to read more about the different types: www.oil4kids.com/aldinfo.htm
some times i feel the PT needs support while involved in tragic cases like
this one.
