Dear list members,
I just read some of the messages about the balance measurements and
could not resist sending you the following references; these are the
methods I was thought in my neurology course (1998), therefore up to
date.
1. Duncan functional reach test: a simple functional outcome measure
which as been shown reliable and highly predictive of falls in the
elderly.
2. The Berg balance scale: 14 items scale assessing the subject's
performance on mouvements common to everyday life (static, dynamic
balance as well as coordination of body parts in functional
activities). This test has showed excellent inter and intra rater
reliability.
3. Clinical test for sensory interaction in balance (CTSIB): also
called the foam and dome test. Used to asses the influence of sensory
interaction on postural stability in the standing position.
Hope this can help!
