Managing the Virtual Branch: the Public Library Web Managers Workshop 2000,
UKOLN, University of Bath, 10th - 12th October.
The public library authority's website will soon be as important a service
point as any of its physical libraries. Already twenty five percent of the
UK population has Internet access and is using it to shop, do their banking
and interact with the Government online. Increasingly these people will
expect
to use many of their local public library services online too.
Consequently,
ensuring that the public library authority's website is accessible, easy to
use and follows good practice will become crucial.
Managing the Virtual Branch: the Public Library Web Managers Workshop is
aimed at the staff responsible for the library's website and who are facing
these issues. The workshop will cover topics such as
* how accessible is your site?
* making your site dynamic
* how to get your site highly ranked in search engines
* implementing the Government's web standards
* future proofing website structures
* case studies of existing successful public library sites
* managing collections of links
* free web tools for improving you site
The workshop will also provide an opportunity for public library web
managers to learn from each other's experiences and share good practice.
The workshop will take place from lunchtime on 10th October to lunchtime
12th October at the University of Bath.
The cost of the workshop will be 250 pounds (including accommodation) or
180 pounds
(excluding accommodation).
More information and the online booking form is available at
