I wonder if the members of the list can answer (or suggest
appropriate resources) the following questions:
1) What would have been identifiably "Irish" about Irish books
in the 12th-15th centuries? I am not thinking of masterworks
of art like the book of kells, but rather (I suspect) ordinary
liturgical manuscripts, written in Latin.
or perhaps other kinds of manuscripts.
I have a few references, in icelandic sources, to "irish books",
but the question is, how would the icelanders know?
2) what evidence is there, in Irish sources, for contact with
scandinavians in the 11th century and later? The later, the
better - 12th - 15th centuries are of special interest
thanks,
