Has anyone anywhere come across the story of St Eusebius going to the rescue
of a young monk who had sold his soul to the devil after falling in love
with a statue of Venus ? The monk had apparently sacrificed his little
finger as part of the diabolic pact, and after the exorcism was successful
was still minus his finger, whereupon St Eusebius sought out the devil and
reclaimed the missing digit?
Possibly this tale is told of other saints but I'd be interested to know
where this tale comes from and the oldest version of it ....
