Thanks to Thomas (er, Tommaso) for his query, to John for providing the
perfect reply, and congratulations to Ambrose for knowing the Caterina da
Siena is the third patron of Italy. Her patronage is intriguing, and invites
fantasies of her being selected due to pressure exerted by post-1860
Italians, caught up in the fervor of the creation of their new country, and
looking for someone who had both the respect and the fear of the papacy.
So, in addition to John's query re the shuffle of Chiara/Clare's feast by
one little day, I ask: is anyone familiar with the hows and whys of
Catherine/Caterina being selected as patron of Italy?
Best wishes,
George(/Giorgio)
