Tom,
If you are not a memner of the MEDART list, you perhaps should join and pose
this question to them. If you'd like to join, respond to meoff-list and I'll
tell you how.
I'd need all my "picture books" to find both the lion and the dragon
depicted in a Last Judgment scene, which, I assume, is what you want. The
tympana at Conques and at Beaulieu come to my mind, but I don't know the
elements in those scenes by heart. Also, "dragon" covereth a multitude of
beasts.
Since "lion" = Saint Mark, and since the evangelists via their symbols were
so often linked to the Majestas Domini, I'd find it odd to see a lion
amongst the damned in a Last Judgment. Lions abound on capitals, most often
chewing someone's head off or fighting with each other.
Good luck with your search. Please share any insights.
Best,
Kathryn
