Dear Colleagues,
Are there any volunteers who might wish to speak on the final
topic at this proposed future Society of Archivists training
event?
If you fancy the challenge, (or if you would prefer to nominate
a colleague), then please contact me.
With best wishes,
Nick

Dear Nick
I am in the process of organising another training event on
maps and plans for archivists / curators who work with maps and
need some basic information about the different materials used
for maps and plans and their preservation. This follows on from
last years event at the PRO.
This year we want to look in more depth at the preservation issues. The day
will be aimed at approx. 25 delegates and an informal setting will be
encouraged to allow for interaction between the delegates and the speakers.
It will be held at the Public Record Office, Kew - 12th December 2000.
The programme will be split into three sessions
1 - the identification of the different materials, the problems of dealing
with them and some simple storage solutions [examples will be on display]
2 - the issues around the selection of map materials which are going to
cause serious preservation problems either currently or in the future to
include electronic material and CAD
3 - the use of digitisation as a last resort to retain the information
I hope to identify someone from a smaller organisation to offer
a case study on how they address the preservation of
maps and plans. Have you any thoughts?
Best wishes
Susan
