Keck's book is a good start (esp. pp. 58-65). Pseudo-Dionysios is the
classical locus for the 9 orders. But you may also want to check Aquinas's
discussion on the division of the 9 orders (based on the diversity of
ministries in carrying out God's providential plan) and his attempt to solve
the difference in the orderings of ps-Dionysios and Gregory: Summa contra
Gentiles book III ch. 80 (on the Web in English:
http://www.nd.edu/Departments/Maritain/etext/gc.htm) and Summa Theologiae Ia
qu. 108 (http://www.newadvent.org/summa)
