The message with the subject line Travel Guides sent to lis-pub-libs on
the 8th July had an attachment which contained a virus. Do not open the
attachment that comes with this message or you will infect your own PC.
The virus can only be installed by opening and running the attachment -
it can not be activated by just reading the e-mail. Simply delete the
e-mail and the unopened attachment to get rid of it. If you have opened
and run the attachment contact your IT support service as soon as
possible.
The virus is called Kak.worm and more information about it can be found at
http://www.inoli.com/viruses/kak.htm
The sender of the e-mail has already been alerted about the virus. This
virus propogates itself by adding itself as an attachment to any e-mails
sent using Outlook Express. It is a well known virus and if you have up to
date virus checking software installed you should be ok. If in any doubt
contact yout IT support service.
