Speaking of changing practice and its underlying mechanism(s), what would be
the status of articles that dealt with a system change in clinical practice?
For example, consider articles from research that paved the way for Medicare
prospective payment system in the early eighties in the US. Ben is obviously
focusing on clinical articles. However, since health care economic issues
are important issues in the planning of clinical outcomes research, one
wonders where economic evaluations of practice patterns might find a place
in defining changes in practice.
