I hope you do. I go at least once a year and it is always a great
pleasure. While drinking in the Black Lion, Walsingham, this time I
asked mine host how old the pub was. It dates apparently to 1310 and
was built for Edward III and Queen Philippa. An upstairs room was an
oratory with a window facing the original shrine, where the Queen could
kneel to say here devotions. Of course, nobody dared to build anything
in her line of sight.
