Do you deal with enquiries about the environment as part of your role? Then
why not attend:
Subject guide to the Internet: environmental information
A one day workshop on 20 July, at LAHQ, in London
The World Wide Web is an impressive source of information on the environment
and environmental issues. No search for such information is now complete
without at least a broad sweep of the Web. The sheer volume of information
can be overwhelming and the lack of precision can be disappointing. But
there are approaches that can be adopted in order to carry out an effective
search.
Which sources are the most authoritative, most up to date, easiest to use or
most complete? Such questions are important to the busy information
professional who has the responsibility to provide an efficient and
effective information service. The workshop will address such questions and
delegates will be encouraged to discuss the sources and add their own
favourites where appropriate.
By the end of the workshop you will:
* be aware of the key Internet resources for information relating to
the environment and environmental issues
* have searched key sites through a "hands on" case study approach
* discussed the range and quality of the sources
Who will benefit from attending?
This workshop will be of interest to all those responsible for answering
environment and environmental issues related enquiries in libraries and
other information units. Basic keyboarding skills are required.
The workshop will be very practical based around seven personal computers,
two participants per terminal. In order to ensure that there is significant
opportunity to search sources, the number of participants will be restricted
to fourteen.
