Dear List Members
A member of the academic staff of the University of New England is
interested in preparing a book list for a unit on embodiment, transcendence
and immanence (see description below).
Can members of the list make any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
Yours
Cameron Barnes
This unit examines concepts of embodiment, transcendence and immanence in
mystical discourses in the light of Late Middle Ages and post modern
readings of the via negativa, the idea that one can 'know' the divine only
through negative rather than positive attribution. Topics to be covered
will include human love as an analogy of divine love, mystical experience
and sexuality, and silence as a form of discursive practice.
