April 21 – Venerable Devotee of Antiphons to the Virgin
The Venerable Franciscan Priest Francisco de Liñan, a native of Valencia,
where he took the habit…
In his final illness he called together all those who had good voices,
requesting they sing hymns and antiphons to the Virgin, because these
suspended his pains.
He prayed to Our Lord that, before dying, he be allowed cessation from his
purgatory of pain, and so it was: on Palm Saturday [sic] the pains ceased
for all of Holy Week. And on Saturday of Glory he died in the Convent of
Puebla, in the enjoyment of alleluias, much as one expects of his life, on
April 21st, 1590.
