De profundis (out of the depths). These words are the opening words of Psalm
130 and in the Vulgate Psalm 129. This psalm is one the seven penitential
psalms and was frequently used in the liturgy in Lent and Advent. Oscar
Wilde wrote a book or essay, I can't remember which, entitled "De
Profundis."
Thomas Sullivan, OSB, with the help of Dom Hugh Tasch, OSB.
