Was Alcuin's edition of the Bible a single very big book? I was under the
impression that it was at least conceived of as a single project of making
a good edition of an accepted canon of scripture. In grad. school an art
history professor and I once tried to calculate how many sheep had to die
for the sake of such a volume.
