Islington libraries are likely to be piloting Sunday Opening from June of this
year.
Could any other London Libraries currently open on Sunday help with answers to a
few questions?
Are all public service areas open?
Is there a full 'weekday' service in all areas, including reference and
information?
How is payment made to staff? How much is it?
If a flat rate, is this across the board including person in charge and any
security staff?
Is the service operated only by existing library staff? Or do you use
specifically employed 'Sunday; staff? If so any issues arising from this?
To what extent is working on Sundays 'Voluntary'?
What happens about bank holidays? Easter Sunday? Sunday whicxh is officially a
bank holiday, but moved to a Monday?
Are ther problems with sickness, staff not turning up, etc? Do you have a
reserve/emergency list of staff who can be contacted to work at short notice?
Do you have any security staff on duty? do you require staff on or above a
certain grade to be on duty in order to open?
Are there any other main issues we should consider?
Please e-mail above or phone John Smith or Marilyn Gibson on 0207-527-6900.
Many Thanks.
