Gloucestershire currently has some 400 asylum seekers but this number is
expected to double by the end of the month.
Approx 25 nationalities, few speak English. Mainly Kosovan, Albanian,
Serb, Czech, Russian, French, Farsi and Arabic.
We are having difficulties in identifying suitable reading material for
them - most of what is available seems to be the "classics". Our readers
are predominantly young people and children wanting lighter reading.
Are there any list members with experience of this problem who could give
us a few pointers/share experiences? Can you recommend any internet
sites in native languages which would give good news coverage?
