Julia,
I'm currently writing my MPH Thesis on the use of an evidence-based decision
process we are developing for use Navy Medicine - would be happy to visit
with you offline and share some of my work in this area.
In short -
Our business folks had developed a nice "business case analysis" BCA tool
that develops a five year return on investment (ROI) for a given project.
This tool had narrative inputs for "intangibles". I've been working with
the individual who developed the BCA to change these "intangible" estimates
into explicit estimates, balance sheets, of clinical effectiveness and the
values of our system. I envision that this will allow our system to better
make decisions in the Venn diagram model (evidence/values/resources)
described by Muir Gray in his book Evidence-based Healthcare; How to Make
Health Policy and Management Decisions.
