-- Unforunately, the cross Atlantic/Channel exchange in the humanities is
not as
comprehensive, as say in the field of medicine -- and in this day and age
I don't think it's because people are unaware of the work of their
cross-atlantic or cross channel counterparts. I don't even think it is a
wholly conscious exclusion either. It's more of case of two different
groups holding a discussion on the same topic. At worst, it might be the
result of a kind
of boycott based on the economy of publications -- once somebody from this
side gets a good published article out of this issue -- Strothmann will
get his just due --
but probably not before then --to be fair however --the Germans,
especially the Germanists, routinely ignore international scholarship too
-- no one's life is on the line, so scholars in the humanities are free to
pick and choose -- and they do.
