Reference No. A05/000194
The School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney is one of the
leading centres for teaching and research in geology and geophysics in
Australia. We seek to hire a structural geologist with broad
interests in the field. They will have research skills in
deformational structures and processes in both brittle and ductile
regimes, and should have interests in tectonics and basin evolution.
The successful applicant will be field-oriented, with expertise in
quantitative data analysis. Familiarity with geophysical techniques
used in structural basin analysis and marine surveying is desirable,
as is competence in numerical structural and tectonic modelling.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, peer-reviewed
publications in international journals and proven research
achievements in the field of structural geology. They must have a
demonstrated ability to teach structural geology and tectonics at all
levels, be able to work cooperatively with others and provide evidence
of potential for future development. Since the successful candidate
will be responsible for the running of undergraduate field mapping
excursions, applicants must be able to demonstrate competence in
geological mapping and hold a current driver's licence.
The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with
representatives of the minerals and energy industries and generate
research funds from those sources. Hence, candidates with relevant
industry experience will be considered favourably.

completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
