If you have not already done so you might want to have a look at Wolfgang
Kemp, "The Narratives of Gothic Stained Glass" CUP 1997 trans. from German
"Sermo Corporeus", Munich, Schirmer/Mosel Verlag, 1987 by Caroline Saltwedel
for an alternative view of looking at this topic. Kemp shows how the
Prodigal Son appeared in various media, but especially 13thc stained glass,
and was chosen "probably as a result of demands made on theologians rather
than by them."
