PLEASE X-POST:
Work on the Web version of the 35th Congress program has
resumed. As of this morning, some 273 sessions (through Congress Friday at
1:30) are now ready for viewing at
http://www.wmich.edu/medieval
Corrections, etc. are gratefully accepted as indicated on the site, which
is still technically a draft. The Grand Total of 562 sessions, some 5%
more than last year, is a record.
This afternoon we completed the hardcopy version of the
program, which will weigh in at over 300 pages. The printer gets the
hardcopy tomorrow, which is a full month ahead of last year's delayed
program.
For those who need to plan now: registration fees and
congress meal costs remain the same. There are necessary fractional
increases in housing costs: $22/night for a single (shared bath),
$17/person/night for double occupancy (bath shared with adjacent room).
This year the Congress hotels are the Radisson [616-343-3333], which
offers the Congress more rooms than last year and at the discounted rate
of $93, and the Holiday-Inn West [616-375-6000] at $67. We do not have
"the run of the house" at either hotel, and thus, if you want discounted
hotel rooms, book as early as you can. Traditionally, the Radisson sells
out around the time that the swallows come to Capistrano.
Once again, I and my colleagues are personally grateful to
the some 286 sponsored session organizers and the scores of medievalists
who volunteered to chair general sessions. You are all first in my will.
Paulus
