Hi all :)
I just came across a pretty strange text, at least for me who has only just
started to deal with different kinds of religious texts. This particular
one is a cycle of shorter texts which at first glance looked like a cycle
of sermons; the strange thing about this text is that it starts with a
quotation from Matthew 1,1, i.e. "Liber generationis..." and, before
explaining what is said in Matthew, the writer/author states: "Hoc
ewangelium scribitur Matheo primo capitulo et legitur in festo nativitatis
et concepcionis BMV" which looks like the beginning of a sermon to me. Yet
I find it a bit odd that a cycle of sermons should start with that
quotation from Matthew, especially since all these texts are pretty long
for sermons (e.g. 99ra-108rb). So I was wondering if anyone might have an
idea what kind of text this could be? It also involves various saints such
as Andrew, Thomas, Peter etc. but these guys start appearing in the middle
of the text; as far as I remember, sermons about saints start off with Andrew.
Thanks,
Susanne Lang
