Dear colleagues,
With reference to questions like "Bears in Britain" we are making a tool to answer questions like this for the Netherlands. With the help of the reference system for archaeozoological information in the Netherlands "BoneInfo" you can find "all bears in the Netherlands" or "all bears in the Netherlands in the Roman period" or "all archaeozoological information about Nijmegen in Roman times" and so on.
When I say "all", I mean "a lot of", because Lisette de Vries is still filling the system.
I little problem. The name for the system "BoneInfo" is the only part in English. We hope to make an English shell in the future. So, if you want to use it, you have to use some Dutch words.
An example for "all the bears in Roman times"
Go to wwwarchis.archis.nl:70/bone-info/index.html
select "zoeken in BoneInfo" (searching in BoneInfo)
Fill in 'ROM' in the field "Begin periode" (beginning of period) and 'ROM' in the field "Eind periode (end of period
Fill in 'Ursus*' or 'Ursus arctos' in the field "Latijnse omschrijving" (Latin name)
select "Zoeken" (search)
Then you get a list of sites. If you select a "ZOOnr", you get the full information about that site or part of the site (including the literature reference).
For help with the system ask Lisette de Vries ([log in to unmask])
Enjoy yourself with archaeozoo-Dutch!
Cheers, Roel
