Dear All,
I am in the process of writing a review paper on wetland birds in
north-west Europe for a volume on wetland archaeology . It struck me
that some finds will inevitably be missed, particularly if they are
published in obscure archive reports. Can you help?
I am interested in any records of the following taxa for N-W Europe
i.e. Britain, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Scandinavia and Poland:
Pygmy Cormorant - I have the British record from Abingdon. Anything
else from the area would be of interest.
Spoonbill - Dale Serjeantson mentiond something recently on this site
from the UK but I stupidly deleted the message. Anyrecords from the
area will be of interest. I have one from Holland.
Black Stork - I know of no records in the area.
White stork - I have very few records for the area.
Black tern - Nothing.
Greater Flamingo - Only rthe record from Zeiler and Clason in Holland.
Little Bittern - Nothing.
Little Egret - Nothing.
Squacco heron - Nothing.
Night Heron - Only the record from london Wall (Harrison, 1980)
The rarer rails (water rail, spotted crake, little crake, Baillons
crake)- Nothing
I have plenty or most? records of crane, bustard, dalmatian pelican,
great cormorant, grey heron.
Have I missed anything? I am not dealing with song birds, ducks or
waders except in passing.
Have a good Xmas,
Cheerio,
John Stewart
