Apologies for cross-posting...
There is a new Mailbase discussion list in the HE staff development, and
teaching & learning field, which you may be interested in joining. It is
called vocab-he, and may be joined from its web site at:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/vocab-he/
Here is a quote from its introductory e-mail:
"This list is devoted to the development of controlled vocabularies,
including
thesauri, classification schemes and browse tree tools, for web-based
resources
in higher education teaching & learning and staff development. Aiming to
enhance
cooperation between UK projects such as SeSDL (Scottish electronic Staff
Development Library), the TLTP projects (ASTER, EFFECTS, SoURCE,
TALENT), and the OTiS project, the list hopes to also involve the
developers of broader thesauri
such as the British Education Index Thesaurus, and information science
projects
such as the Centre for Digital Library Research's HILT project.
The list will focus on the development of appropriate vocabularies and
classification structures, using terminology that is most useful to the
UK
higher education community, while maintaining possibilites of
international
cooperation as well. By drawing together those who are subject experts
in higher
education staff development and teaching & learning, with information
science
and library professionals, we aim to create web search and browse tools
which
are consistent throughout the UK higher education sector."
At present I am the only listowner, but, as my contract ends at the end
of October, I'm hoping someone else will volunteer to take over, if the
list is found to be useful.
My apologies if I've left your project's name out of the above
description. That can be remedied.
I hope those who have already been taking part in discussions around
this topic will join the list. I aim to post a few discussion-starters
gleaned from the e-mail discussions some of us have already been having
in the last month or so.
I look forward to communicating with those who are interested in this
topic.
Kind regards,
--
