Heavens, young man. Does that scan?
I for one am sorry that other committments have forced Hugh to retire from
the lists, as it were, excuse my flight of fancy. I must say I am moved by
his modesty in not making a public retirement, though I was both flattered
and touched by his favour in sending me a personal letter of farewell, a
boon which I believe one or two others may have shared.
As his action was private, and unsung, I regret I cannot share the missive
with you all, but do hope that I can at least by this convey my appreciation
from the shadows.
