This young woman was Saint Catherine of Siena I think,.........who
corresponded with Saint Jerome (among many others)
extensively. From being completely unable to write and read, (she would
dictate her letters to an erudite Sister)
Saint Catherine late in her life turned into being a graphomaniac.

.........one of which is the Holy Santa Lucy of Syracuse who lost her life
in the persecution of Christians.
..a sad legend tells that Roman Emperor Diocletian ordered , as part of an
horrific torture against the unfortunate young Christian, that Lucy's eyes
were blinded (see painting on the web site of Saint Lucy holding a dish with
her blue eyes in it.)
For this reason she is Patron of those who have eye problems.
I always admired her and at the age of six I could play on the piano the
Neapolitan music "Santa Lucia"
(in the song, Santa Lucia is evoked to protect the little boat of the
mariner who leaves the beach in the small hours of the night to go fishing
and earn his leaving.
Above, the splendid eye of the moon, shining and trembling on the inky sea
on the gulf of Naples, and in the heart, the sacred image of the Holy and
luminous Saint Lucy).
Lucia = Luce = Light
